ALFRED OSBORNE POPE NICHOLSON AKIN (1841-1915)
Alfred was the son of Samuel Williamson & Eliza Carter Akin (my 3x great grandparents). He was named after the U.S. Senator from Tennessee, Alfred Osborn Pope Nicholson, who also happens to be buried at Rose Hill Cemetery. Alfred fought in the Civil War and became a prominent citizen in Columbia (see article at the end of this entry). My grandfather, Alfred Nicholson Akin (1896-1951), was named after this uncle.
