St. John's Episcopal Church Cemetery

Visited January 21, 2018. | St. John’s Church Cemetery, Ashwood, Tennessee (Corner of Trotwood Avenue and Polk Lane).

A historic Episcopal church built from 1839 to 1842 by Bishop Leonidas Polk, a second cousin of President James K. Polk. Numerous Polk ancestors are buried in the small church graveyard.

John Polk (1767-1845) and Elizabeth Alderson Polk (1766-1829) are buried together in this large tomb. One side has the marker for John and the other side has Elizabeth's. They were my 4x great grandparents and the parents of Franklin Armstead Polk.
