SAMUEL AND DORCAS AKIN

My 4x great grandparents, Samuel Akin (1771-1844) and Dorcas (Starr) Akin (1771-1850) are buried there. Dorcas's tombstone is still standing, although it is quite worn. There is a stone next to her that looks to be Samuel's tombstone. Samuel and Dorcas were both born in South Carolina, moved to Kentucky in the late 1790's, and by 1801 had purchased land in Williamson County, Tennessee. Eventually Samuel would own 212 acres located in Burwood on Murfrees Creek.

ELIZABETH "BETSY" AKIN (1804-1880)

Betsy Akin, daughter of Samuel and Dorcas Akin, lived the longest out of their 12 children. She never married and her father included a special clause in his will stating that she was to be able to live in the family home for entire life. Based on census records, Betsy lived with nieces and nephews until her death in 1881.

THE FERGUSON FAMILY

Polly Vance Akin, daughter of Samuel and Dorcas, died at the age of 23. She was married to Duncan Campbell and left behind three children: John, Samuel and Mary. After Polly's death, Duncan left the area and ended remarrying. Their children lived with Samuel and Dorcas. Mary married Doctor Franklin Ferguson in 1841, and he and many of their children are buried in Spring Hill Cemetery. I'm not sure when Mary Ferguson died or where she was buried.
